The Toronto-Leaside Jr Wildcats have started the 2016/17 campaign in a strong way with an overall record of 3-1-1. Game one was against a strong undefeated Oakville Hornets club, the game ended in a 1-1 tie. Game two the team found their scoring touch putting five past Kingston thanks in part to Emma Pye’s first career PWHL hat-trick. Game’s three and four were both 1-0 wins against Stoney Creek and Cambridge. Unfortunately the win streak would end there as the Toronto Aeros would hand the Jr Wildcats their first loss of the season in a 4-1 game at York University.
Leaside will look to get back in the win column with a rematch against the Oakville Hornets on Wednesday at home at 8:55. The team will be home again on Saturday Oct 15 against the Whitby Wolves at 7:40 pm before hitting the road Sunday against Waterloo. Also to note, during the past weekend three Jr Wildcats players took part in the Team Ontario training camp at Teen Ranch. Third-year Defenseman Mariah Hinds was named to Team Ontario Red, while second-year centre Kristin Della Rovere and second-year defenseman Chloe Gonsalves have been chosen to represent Team Ontario Blue. The three will be representing Ontario at the upcoming Under 18 National Championships in Regina, Saskatchewan.
