The Toronto-Leaside Jr Wildcats have been climbing the standings of late, going 6-2-1 in the last 9 games heading into our last weekend of games for 2016. The team now sits in a tie for 7th place out of 20 teams and has a 0.614 win percentage in league play.
Leaside struggled to find the back of the net for a few games but were able to come out with a 1-0 overtime win over Kingston before being shutout 2-0 by Etobicoke the following week. The Jr Wildcats took the loss in stride by winning the next two games 2-0 and 3-1, finishing off a busy three game week.
The following weekend would see the team travel to Burlington where Leaside was on the wrong end of a high scoring game, losing 5-4. Less than 24 hours later the Wildcats took the ice at home against Cambridge where a hard fought game ended 1-1.
With only one game on the first weekend of December, the Wildcats were looking for a win against Southwest. After going down by one after the first period, Leaside would score one in both the second and third, including Payton Bray’s first PWHL goal.
The following weekend the Wildcats hosted Bluewater, in what was a fast and physical game. Leaside was able to come out on top with a 4-2 win. Less than 24 hours later, Leaside was back on the ice in Aurora for the second meeting between the two teams this season. Kristin Della Rovere opened the scoring early and would finish the game with a hat-trick. Sam Jones netted two of her own while Mariah Hinds scored two of her own highlight reel goals giving the team a 7-1 win.
Next weekend, the Jr Wildcats head south, taking on London, Southwest and Bluewater before heading into the holiday break.
