The Toronto-Leaside Jr Wildcats have had a busy month with both regular season and tournament play.
In regular season play, Leaside went on a bit of a losing streak dropping contests to Oakville, Whitby and Waterloo. The team then rebounded in tournament play, finishing the Detroit USA-Canada Cup with a record of 4 wins & only 1 loss.
The success from the tournament then carried on to the regular season where Leaside would come out on top against Etobicoke 5-2 with five different players finding the back of the net. The Jr Wildcats would then beat London 3-1. Emma Pye had two assists in the contest. The team would close out the week with a 2-2 draw against Durham West.
This past weekend we hit the road again facing off in the Nation’s capital against Ottawa and Nepean. After two tight periods Leaside would get two quick ones 31 seconds apart to take the game 3-1 with Madison Heeney netting two and Myah Bowal picking up two assists. However, the weekend would end on a sour note with a 4-1 loss at the hands of Nepean.
On Sunday morning three members of the Jr Wildcats took off to Regina, Saskatchewan to represent Ontario at the Under 18 National Championships. Third-year defenseman Mariah Hinds is on Team Ontario Red, while second-year centre Kristin Della Rovere and second-year defenseman Chloe Gonsalves are competing with Team Ontario Blue. We wish the players the best of luck and we know you’ll do your province and your Leaside family proud.
The rest of the Jr Wildcats will continue to practice this week before heading to Kingston on Sunday for our only game of the week.
