The Toronto-Leaside Jr Wildcats have started the 2017-2018 campaign in a strong way with an overall record of 2 wins and 3 ties in the 1st 5 regular season games, good for 7 points in the standings and an overall win percentage of 0.700. The team currently sits tied for 4th place and is one of the only two remaining undefeated teams in the league.
Game 1 was on the road against Cambridge and took until overtime to decide when Sarah Brooks snapped a hard shot over the Cambridge goalie’s shoulder for her 1st ever PWHL goal and the team’s first win of the regular season. In game two, the team earned another point in a 1-1 tie with Burlington. In the team’s home opener and 3rd game of the season, the Jr Wildcats skated to another 1-1 tie against Whitby. This past weekend, the team won 3-1 at home against Kingston on the strength of 3 goals in the 3rd period and then came back to earn yet another 1-1 tie against the Toronto Aeros the following afternoon.
The Jr Wildcats have no games this coming weekend and return to action at the Can/Am Tournament in Detroit on October 13-15th. The team’s next regular season game is at home on Saturday October 21st at 740pm against Ottawa at the Leaside Memorial Arena. The Toronto-Leaside Jr Wildcats would also like to congratulate Myah Bowal, Kristin Della Rovere and Kate Stuart for being selected to their provincial teams for the upcoming Under 18 National Championships. This marks the 2nd year in a row that the Jr Wildcats will have 3 players competing at this national event. Bowal and Stuart will be representing Team BC at the event and Della Rovere will be competing for Team Ontario Red. The 2017 National Women’s Under-18 Championship runs from November 1st to 5th in Quebec City at ExpoCité’s Pavillon de la jeunesse.
